Lancaster man who died after two-motorcycle collision identified

The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a Lancaster man left dead after a two-motorcycle collision on Thursday.

Fred Newton Jr., 48, died at the scene of a crash at the intersection of Knotty Pine Drive and Providence Road.

The other rider, 32-year-old Justin Ellis of Lancaster, was transported to Springs Memorial Hospital and later to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Collins said.

The collision happened around 7 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Providence Road and Knotty Pine Drive, said Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist who died was riding a 1998 Harley Davidson and was not wearing a helmet, Rhyne said. Ellis was riding a 2006 Suzuki and was wearing a helmet when the two bikes collided, Ryne said.
