A portion of S.C. Route 97 between Hickory Grove and Smyrna will be closed for nearly two months while construction crews perform work, according to the S.C. Department of Transportation.

Construction workers will perform rehabilitation from Aug. 28 through the end of October for the road just north of Railroad Avenue to just north of Ebenezer Road between the two towns. The work will also shut down about 1,200 feet of Ebenezer Road leading up to S.C. 97.

To avoid the work, travelers are asked to take advantage of two detours.

▪  When traveling north on S.C. 97, turn left onto Potato House Road heading towards Legion Road; continue onto Legion Road and travel to the intersection of Main Street/S.C. 97.

▪  When traveling north on S.C. 97, turn right onto York Street; then turn right onto Peachtree Street; then turn left onto Walnut Street and turn left onto Ebenezer Road.

The work is being performed by Eagle Construction Company under a contract with the SCDOT.
