Chester Police say a 50-year-old man was killed Thursday night after being hit by a train near Simrill Street.

Authorities identified the man as Jeffrey Weldon. He was sitting on the train tracks and tried to get out of the way of an oncoming locomotive when he was hit, according to a news release from the Chester Police Department.

Officers found Weldon beside the tracks, the release states. Family members identified the man to police.

The accident occurred near Simrill and Ehrlich streets, police said.
