3 kittens abandoned at Rock Hill park; police were told family could not keep them
Police in Rock Hill decided not to press any charges Saturday after a witness saw a teen abandon three kittens at Glencairn Garden.
Police were called around 6 p.m. Saturday by a witness who saw the teen put the kittens down in the park, and then leave with an adult in an SUV, police said.
The witness collected the kittens and told police he would take them to an animal shelter.
Officers were able to track down the people responsible for leaving the kittens through the license plate information from the SUV, an incident report shows.
An adult told officers that an “outdoor” cat named “Lucy” had recently had kittens, but the family could not care for the kittens.
The adult told officers that Glencairn Garden was chosen to drop off the kittens because it has regular visitors, and that someone at the park might take the kittens and care for them. The adult told police that the decision to leave the kittens there was a lapse in judgment.
The officer told the person who left the kittens about pet requirements but “after considering the evidence in this case and the fact that the kittens were going to be cared for,” no charges were filed.
