Rock Hill to cool down, but it won’t last long
A blast of summer-like temperatures will be followed by a taste of autumn this week in the Rock Hill area.
After temperatures that threaten records Wednesday and Thursday, a cold front is forecast to cross the region Friday. And that will usher in much more comfortable weather, forecasters say.
The only fly in the ointment: A lack of rain.
The Rock Hill area has been precipitation-free for two weeks, and there is no rain in the forecast for the next seven days.
Warm readings of the past 10 days will reach a crescendo by Thursday. Forecasters are calling for afternoon highs in the low 90s. Those will threaten records of 93 degrees Wednesday and Thursday in the area.
The Wednesday record dates back to 1900.
The cold front is forecast to cross the area late Thursday and early Friday.
“Highs on Friday will finally return to seasonal levels,” said Scott Krentz, of the National Weather Service office in Greer.
That means a high of 80 degrees Friday, and as the high pressure system behind the cold front takes control of the area, the weekend highs will continue to drop – to 76 degrees Saturday and only 74 Sunday. Morning lows are expected to be in the low and mid 50s.
Krentz said “very pleasant conditions” will extend into next week, with mostly sunny skies and daily highs in the mid 70s.
You might not want to put the summer clothes away yet, however. Long-range computer guidance indicates a return of above-average temperatures by the end of next week, probably continuing into mid-October.
