Catawba Nuclear Station sirens test scheduled for Wednesday

Duke Energy and officials at the Catawba Nuclear Station will test sirens around the facility on Wednesday. The exercise is a coordinated effort to regularly test public alert sirens for three minutes.

No public action is required during the test on Wednesday, officials said.

The test will last about three minutes, starting around 11:50 a.m.

As a reminder, Duke officials said on Tuesday that hearing a siren from the Catawba station does not necessarily mean residents should evacuate the area. In an emergency, sirens are sounded as a signal for residents to tune to a local radio or TV station that would carry an emergency alerting message.
