Court hearing in Executive Inn case postponed

A court proceeding against the owner of a condemned motel has been postponed.

Punam Patel, the owner of the Executive Inn on Anderson Road, was due in municipal court Monday on eight charges of violating Rock Hill’s maintenance codes. The Executive Inn was condemned by the city in October as “unfit for human habitation.”

The hearing will now be held July 6. Patel and city building officials had agreed to dismiss Patel’s charges if the inn was demolished by April, but demolition did not begin until last week because more asbestos was discovered in the building than anticipated.

If demolition is completed by the new court date, charges against the owner could still be dismissed at that time.
