Rock Hill stormwater issues come to the surface

Four Rock Hill neighborhoods will see stormwater improvements soon after the City Council approved second reading of almost $4 million worth of work to prevent flooding in those areas.

For other residents worried about stormwater flooding, a public meeting scheduled for Tuesday night will let them know when their streets might be up for similar improvements.

Improvements will be made to Allen and Sidney streets in the Hagins-Fewell neighborhood; Charlotte Avenue near Park Drive; Midbrook Drive and Woodhaven Road; and three streets – Eagle Drive, Hummingbird Lane and Raven Drive – in the Rawlinson Acres II development off West Main Street.

A total of 28 homes affected by flooding will see improvements because of new funding available through a loan from the S.C. Water Quality Revolving Fund.

City officials will hold a public meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday to keep residents in other neighborhoods informed on the city’s stormwater master plan and when work is expected to begin on other needed projects.

Several neighborhood associations have asked the city to keep residents informed as the plan progresses, and planners will be able to give residents a tentative schedule for when projects in their areas will be completed.

The meeting, open to the public, will be at the Housing and Neighborhood Services building, 150 Johnston St.
