Lancaster County man airlifted to hospital after head-on crash with logging truck
A man was flown to a Charlotte hospital in a helicopter after a head-on collision between his SUV and a logging truck Tuesday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Lance Cpl. Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the injured man, a 46-year-old from Heath Springs, was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer SUV.
The other man, a 64-year-old from Lancaster, was driving a 2011 Freightliner Truck and was not injured, Miller said.
The injured man was driving east on S.C. 903 and the truck driver was driving west just before 12:30 p.m. about five miles east of Lancaster, Miller said.
He said the truck driver left his lane, and struck the injured man’s car head on.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The injured man was trapped in his car. The Herald news partner WSOC-TV reported first responders used jaws of life to cut the man out of the SUV.
