York County under flash flood warning

A flash flood warning has been issued for York County and portions of some neighboring counties.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg warns heavy rains moving through the area in the early evening will increase the chance of flash flooding in some areas and roadways. The flood warning is in effect until 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

The eastern part of York County is effected along with the southern portions of Gaston and Mecklenburg counties in North Carolina.

Earlier, a tornado watch is in effect for a large swath of South Carolina, including York, Chester and Lancaster counties.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center issued the watch at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, affecting 30 counties across the state.

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Other counties under the watch are Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Calhoun, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Colleton, Dorchester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lee, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter and Union.
