Cops will trade in badges and guns and ticket pads for forks and spoons and menus Thursday and Friday at Fatz Cafe in Rock Hill to raise money for Special Olympics.
Officers from all York County police agencies will wait tables at lunch and dinner at the restaurant, located at 478 S. Herlong Ave. All donations and tips will go to the South Carolina law enforcement torch run program to help athletes in Special Olympics compete at local, state and national events.
The annual law enforcement torch run where police carry the Special Olympics flame through York and Chester counties to raise money is set for April 30, starting at 8 a.m. at Cherry Park in Rock Hill and heading south.
Next month on May 28-30, police will again participate in “Cops on the Roof” at Rock Hill’s Krispy Kreme doughnut store to raise more money for Special Olympics. During the three days, there will be celebrity and public doughnut eating contests, plus an eating contest pitting cops, firefighters and emergency medical workers against each other.
