Schools in York County will be closed Thursday due to winter conditions.
The Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Clover and York school districts will be closed to students and staff Thursday. Schools also were closed Wednesday.
Fort Mill’s next make up day is March 30. Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Clover and York students already were scheduled to make up Wednesday’s missed classes on Feb. 19.
York students will make up Thursday’s classes on March 16.
“Today's snow and wet weather is predicted to stay on roads and other surfaces overnight as the temperatures stay below freezing, creating dangerous driving conditions tomorrow,” according to a statement posted Wednesday afternoon to the York school district’s Facebook page.
Lancaster County and Chester County schools and offices are also closed Thursday.
York County emergency officials are encouraging residents to stay off the roads as they are expected to ice up overnight when the temperatures dip below freezing.
Winthrop University is also closed Thursday. A decision had not yet been made Wednesday evening about Thursday’s men’s basketball game at Winthrop Coliseum, officials said.
York Technical College is also closed Thursday.
In Tega Cay, which closed city offices Wednesday, City Manager Charlie Funderburk said there could be a delayed opening Thursday if the weather causes safety concerns.
“Public works will be here around the clock until the weather event is out of here and the roads are clear,” he said.
“The main focus will be making sure public safety is able to respond to all calls for service,” Funderburk said.
All York County library locations (Rock Hill, York, Clover, Fort Mill, Lake Wylie) will be open noon-5 p.m. Thursday and will be open 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Friday.
