Chester man killed after crashing into log truck, police say

A 58-year-old Chester man died in a crash with a log truck late Wednesday, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

James Arledge Nichols Jr. of Chester was killed after he crashed into the back of a log truck driving west on S.C. Highway 9, about 4 miles west of Richburg, said Cpl. Bill Rhyne of S.C. Highway Patrol.

Nichols was driving a 2006 Toyota Highlander when he crashed just after 10:30 p.m.

The log truck was empty, and the driver, 66, was not injured, Rhyne said.

Nichols was not wearing a seat belt, Rhyne said.
