Rock Hill water tower’s last days

Workers stand on top of the downtown Rock Hill water tower on Tuesday afternoon, preparing the structure for demolition. The water tower at West Main and Laurel streets will come down soon to make way for a new 750,000-gallon, 165-foot tall water tower.

McLean Tank, a Gastonia, N.C., contractor, is in charge of the demolition. Landmark Structures of Texas will build the $4 million replacement tank.

The demolition and replacement tank are part of a city of Rock Hill utility improvement project. The city is using a low interest rate loan from the state to complete the work.
