‘Found safe’: York County man located after missing on Jet Ski on Lake Wylie, cops say

A York County man who did not return from a July 4 Jet Ski trip on Lake Wylie that prompted a two-day search by police has been found safe, officials said.

Larry Scott Hollis, 50, was “located safe” around 12:30 p.m. Friday, said Cpl. Kim Morehouse of the York County Sheriff’s Office and Lance Cpl. Jeff Vissage of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

Details about where Hollis was found have not yet been released by South Carolina wildlife officials or the sheriff’s office.

Hollis is going to be checked by emergency medical technicians as a precaution, Vissage said.

Hollis was reported missing around 6:30 p.m. Thursday from the Big Allison Creek area on the lake’s western shore in York County, officials said.

Wildlife officers with DNR and deputies searched the lake until about midnight Thursday and resumed the search Friday morning, Vissage said.

“Our information is he went on a personal watercraft and did not return home,” Vissage said.

Hollis was wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts, and a red personal flotation device when last seen, according to deputies and Vissage.

DNR issued a statement by news release and social media around noon Friday saying the search remained ongoing.

Deputies put out a missing person statement asking for the public’s help Friday around noon on the sheriff’s office Facebook and Twitter social media pages.
