1 killed, 2 hurt in 4-vehicle crash in Lancaster County SC, troopers say

One person was killed and two others were injured Friday in a crash involving four vehicles in Lancaster County, troopers said.

The wreck happened before 7 a.m. on U.S. 521 at the intersection of North Corner Road near S.C. 5, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The site is between the city of Lancaster and Indian Land, Lancaster County fire officials said.

The driver of a Chevrolet SUV that was on North Corner Road failed to yield when entering U.S. 521, Miller said. That SUV collided with the first of three vehicles that were heading north on U.S. 521, Miller said.

The driver of the SUV that didn’t yield was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte but later died, Miller said.

The name name of the driver who died has not been released by the Lancaster County Coroner’s office.

The other two northbound vehicles were involved in the collision after the initial crash, Miller said.

Two people in the other vehicles were hurt, Miller said. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

The fatality is the first in Lancaster County in 2020, according to the S.C Department of Public Safety.

In 2019, 16 people were killed in wrecks on Lancaster County roads, public safety statistics show.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol and the coroner’s office.
