Road flooding traps woman on car roof in York County; officials urge caution
A woman was trapped on the roof of her car on a flooded York County Road Tuesday before being rescued, officials said.
The incident happened near the small town of Hickory Grove in the 5700 block of Wilson Chapel Road, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office. The area had seen heavy rain since the weekend.
Volunteer firefighters from Hickory Grove, McConnells and other stations responded, Faris said. The woman was rescued without injury.
“Heavy rain can bring dangerous flash floods,” emergency management officials said on Twitter social media. “Never attempt to drive on or through a flooded road. Six inches of water is enough to cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Turn around, don’t drown. Almost half of flood deaths happen in vehicles.”
The road has been closed because of the flooding, officials said.
