An armor steel supplier is setting up shop in York County.

The South Carolina Department of Commerce on Wednesday announced Optimized Armor will invest $3.7 million in a Rock Hill facility and create 100 jobs.

“Not only is it a promising start for the year ahead, but an affirmation of the work accomplished to date,” said Mayor John Gettys. “The people of Rock Hill look forward to welcoming Optimized Armor, and to the prospect of good, sustainable jobs in the defense and security industry available in the coming months.”

The 467 Lakeshore Parkway site will create components and fabrications for armored steel used in defense, security, off-highway equipment and transportation manufacturing.

“We have experienced tremendous growth across the globe and look forward to continuing to serve our U.S.-based customers out of our new facility,” said Simon Hurst, director for Optimized Armor.

York County Council Chairman Michael Johnson sees Optimized Armor as part of a promising trend.

“They not only provide quality new jobs for our area but also add to the impressive number of metal fabrication and engineering companies in York County,” he said.
