Here’s the newest feature coming to the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill.
The Anne Springs Close Greenway is getting a new front porch.
The greenway announced Monday its groundbreaking on a new capital project to join its newly opened Greenway Gateway site. The Domtar Forest Porch will extend from Greenway Gateway, along the historic Nation Ford Road at the main greenway entrance off U.S. 21 Bypass.
A gift from Domtar Corporation, headquartered in nearby Kingsley with about 10,000 employees across North America, led to the new structure.
“The Forest Porch represents Domtar’s commitment to the local community and the legacy of the Anne Springs Close Greenway,” said John D. Williams, Domtar president and CEO, in a statement. “Our company’s mission to serve as a world-class industry leader while positively impacting our communities is made possible through partnerships like this one, and we are extremely proud to see what this new amenity will bring to our local community.”
The porch will have a garden platform deck, with a stone stream bed, gravel courtyard, rock seat wall and event lawn.
In the release Monday, greenway advancement director Samantha Kowert called Domtar a valued corporate partner with many years supporting the site.
“The Forest Porch will provide a space for our community to gather and enjoy nature and elevate the experience we are able to provide on property without diminishing from the incredible natural elements of the land we seek to preserve,” Kowert said.
The greenway attracted more than 275,000 visitors last year. The 2,100-acre site includes 36 miles of trails and places for hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, camping and more.
