Here’s where a major stretch film company plans to bring new Lancaster County jobs.

A Malaysian stretch film company plans to set up shop in Lancaster County.

Scientex Packaging Film will invest $43 million and create 69 new jobs. The new packaging facility at 234 Grace Avenue in Lancaster will have the latest in cast stretch film technology. The site should be up and running by 2021.

“It’s always exciting to see an international company like Scientex Packaging Film choose to invest in our state,” Gov. Henry McMaster said, in a statement from his office. “This $43 million investment is great news for Lancaster County, and the 69 jobs this company is creating will have a lasting impact on that community.”

The company is a leading manufacturer of custom films including shrink films, polyethylene films, tubes and bags, lamination films and other projects. Scientex has been in business more than 50 years.

“Lancaster County provides an ideal location for Scientex to manufacture products for our customers in the eastern half of the United States,” company senior general manager Goh Tian Chin said in the same release from the governor’s office. “The county and State of South Carolina have been incredible to work with and assisted us immensely with our building search, due diligence and community evaluation. Selecting Lancaster was an easy decision and we look forward to being operational early next year and active in the community.”

Lancaster County officials say the area remains strong for manufacturers, both existing and for prospective businesses. Steve Harper, Lancaster County Council chairman, attributes that climate to a pro-business area with a strong workforce and attractive incentives.

“Scientex is one of Malaysia’s top-ranked businesses and has an excellent reputation,” said Jamie Gilbert, executive director of the county economic development office. “They are a pleasure to work with and their attention to project detail is impressive. Scientex joins a growing list of international companies that recognize what a tremendous and welcoming location Lancaster County offers them.”

Anyone interested in the coming jobs can get more information or apply online at scientex.com.

According to its website, Scientex products include stretchable film widely used for pallet wrapping, specialty products used on auto interiors, strapping band, twine, adhesives and more.
