Weather postpones state water and sewer rate hike hearing in York County

The planned public hearing on a Blue Granite Water Company rate increase won’t happen tonight.

The state Public Service Commission now lists the hearing originally set for 6 p.m. Feb. 20 as rescheduled due to inclement weather. The new date is March 5, still held at the York County Council Chambers at 6 S. Congress St. in York.

Blue Granite confirmed the change on Twitter. The March 5 meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

York County had planned to hold a separate public meeting March 5 for a small area plan study in Lake Wylie. A county tweet now indicates that meeting will be rescheduled, too.

The water rate hearing comes as part of Blue Granite’s request to raise water and sewer rates for its roughly 28,000 South Carolina customers. Blue Granite is the main water and sewer provider in Lake Wylie. The company has smaller systems in Fort Mill, Rock Hill and other parts of York County.

State regulators should decide this spring whether the company gets its requested rate changes, up 35-56% for water and sewer.
