Motorcycle driver killed in York County crash with SUV near Lake Wylie, troopers say
A motorcycle driver was killed Friday in a collision with an SUV in York County, police said.
The crash happened around 3:20 p.m. on Oak Ridge Road between Clover and Lake Wylie south of the North Carolina state line, said Trooper Joe Hovis of the S.C Highway Patrol.
The motorcycle was heading east when it collided with the SUV that was entering Oak Ridge Road from another street, Hovis said.
The driver of the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene, Hovis said.
The SUV driver was not hurt, Hovis said.
The wreck remains under investigation by the South Carolina Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
The death of a motorcyclist is the 12th in South Carolina in 2020, public safety officials said.
