Coronavirus cases rise in York, Lancaster County as SC total passes 5,200
York and Lancaster counties logged new cases Saturday of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Four more cases were reported for York County and Lancaster County’s number increased by five, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
York County now has 177 reported cases, Lancaster County 85 and Chester County 27, according to DHEC. Estimated cases are higher at 1,087 for York County, 522 for Lancaster County and 166 for Chester County.
South Carolina logged 180 additional coronavirus cases Saturday, bringing the total in the state to 5,253, DHEC reports.
Nine more people in the state have died, with the total rising to 166, according to DHEC.
Health officials have confirmed that a person from Florence County died related to COVID-19 and have added that death back to the state’s total.
Elderly individuals whose deaths were reported Saturday include two from Berkeley County, two from Florence County and one from Colleton, Greenville, Orangeburg and Richland counties, reports DHEC. One middle-aged individual from Lee county also died.
