United Way of York County offers financial help for nonprofits. What to know.
York County non-profits focused on addressing food and shelter needs can now apply for additional funding.
The United Way of York County has been chosen for funding from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board program. The federal program supplements emergency food and shelter programs, according to a release from United Way.
The National Board consists of the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, the Jewish Federations of North America, the Salvation Army and United Way Worldwide, states the release.
United Way of York County will determine how funds will be distributed to local non-profits, the release states. The grant will supplement and expand existing resources, with an emphasis on utility, rent and mortgage assistance.
Applications are due no later than 4 p.m. May 18.
To receive funds, non-profits must:
- Be a private voluntary non-profit or governmental unit
- Be located in and serve York County residents
- Be eligible to receive federal funds
- Show a capacity to deliver emergency food or shelter programs
- Meet required reporting standards for use of federal funds

United Way of York County has previously provided funds to the Clover Area Assistance Center, the Salvation Army, and the Housing Development Corporation of Rock Hill for utility, rent and mortgage assistance, the release states.
