Officials: Security guard killed in accident at York County work site near NC line
A female security guard has died in what appears to be an accidental death outside a York County industrial site, coroner officials said.
The death Friday morning is being investigated as an accident, said Sabrina Gast, York County Coroner.
Patricia Taylor, 69, died at the Stanley Black & Decker plant, Gast said. Taylor was a pedestrian involved in a collision with a vehicle on the plant grounds, Gast said.
The coroner’s office and S.C. Highway Patrol are investigating, Gast said.
Abigail Dreher, director of public affairs for Stanley Black & Decker, said the company is cooperating with police and coroner investigators looking into the death of the woman who was a contract security worker.
“A security contractor was killed in what appears to be a tragic accident involving an independent trucking company at the parking lot entrance to our Fort Mill, S.C. facility,” Dreher said in a statement to The Herald. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the contractor’s family, friends and associates.”
The incident happened in the overnight hours at the industrial site at 4041 Pleasant Road, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office. The site is close to Carowinds and the North Carolina state line.
Deputies, highway patrol troopers, EMS, Flint Hill Fire Department, and the coroner’s office were dispatched to the scene, Faris said.
No other information has been released.
