Charlotte grocery store update: Bringing back samples, adding pickup, changing delivery
Charlotte-area grocery stores continue to make changes amid the novel coronavirus crisis.
Matthews-based Harris Teeter this week began accepting online-only payments for all ExpressLane orders to help expedite shopping and further allow safe physical distancing.
Sampling coming back
Costco is bringing back samples next month as store traffic continues to decline during the pandemic, Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti said during the company’s third-quarter earnings call Thursday, according to Grocery Dive industry publication.
Food courts also will gradually begin adding more menu items for takeout service.
Adding pickup
German grocer Aldi is expanding curbside grocery pickup through Instacart at almost 600 stores in 35 states by the end of July, according to a company press release. A $4.99 fee is applied to orders, which must be a minimum of $10 each, according to the website.
Bi-Lo also said it is partnering with Instacart to offer same-day delivery to customers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
All orders default to “Leave at My Door Delivery” to ensure social distancing.
Honoring Class of 2020
Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs across the country on Wednesday will honor workers who are graduating with tributes in stores through shout-outs, music, in-store graduation parades, luncheons and other celebrations, according to a company press release.
