Isaias may be a hurricane. Here’s what it could bring to York, Chester and Lancaster

Rain that could be heavy enough to cause flooding is possible Monday night into Tuesday morning in York, Chester and Lancaster counties from Tropical Storm Isaias, officials said.

The storm is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane before by the time it reaches South Carolina and North Carolina, weather officials said.

Rainfall of more than 1.5 inches is possible locally, with potential for flooding, according to a hazardous weather outlook statement from the National Weather Service. The system also could bring cloud-to-ground lightning and gusty winds.

Winds are expected to be 15 mph or less, but could be up to 25 mph, said Lancaster County Emergency Management Director Darren Player.

The effects from the storm locally are expected to be over by Tuesday morning, Player said.

York County Emergency Management Director Chuck Haynes said rain and wind are forecast but not to the point where damage is expected.

Rain and wind started Monday after noon in parts of Lancaster County, and eastern York and Chester counties.
