Yes, they can: A Lancaster County manufacturer announces its $9.7 million expansion.
A Lancaster County can maker has a more than $9.7 million expansion planned.
Silgan Containers announced the expansion Tuesday. It will be complete by the end of 2021. The expansion will create 16 new jobs within five years.
“Silgan is proud to make this investment in Lancaster, which will provide job security and opportunities to our great team of employees in Lancaster,” Silgan plant manager John Wilbert said in an announcement from the state commerce department. “The state and county’s positive business climate combined with an excellent workforce have helped make this investment possible.”
Silgan is a can manufacturer. The company was founded in 1987. It makes metal food containers for shelf-stable and general line products, producing cans for customers across the Southeast, per the announcement. Silgan is located at 1531 Camp Creek Road in Lancaster.
“We’re excited to celebrate the continued success of our state’s thriving manufacturing industry,” state secretary of commerce Bobby Hitt said in the announcement. “Silgan Containers’ latest investment in Lancaster County is a big win and will have a real impact in the Lancaster County community.”

Steve Harper, Lancaster County Council chairman, called it another golden day for his county with news of the expansion.
“Silgan Containers is one of our most respected manufacturers, and the new jobs and investment are very much welcomed and appreciated,” Harper said.
Jamie Gilbert, economic development director for the county, said the expansion is important both for the county and for what it says about the way the county does business.
“Silgan Containers’ expansion is a significant long-term commitment to their Lancaster County facility,” he said. “The investment is a reflection of the plant’s strategic importance to the company and a testament to the outstanding business climate the county and state offer manufacturers.”
