The movie theater in Indian Land is closed again. Here’s why, and how long.
The theater at RedStone in Indian Land is closed again, as owners there await progress on COVID-19 and a strong lineup of movies.
RedStone 14 is part of Stone Theatres, based in Charlotte. The 14-screen theater is one of six in the company, spread across the Carolinas. RedStone 14 announced on its Facebook page it would join all those theaters with a temporary closure.
A statement from Stone Theatres on its website has the sites closed through next month, at least.
“We have made a difficult decision to temporarily close all open Stone Theatres locations and postpone any re-openings until we have a meaningful and sustainable schedule of new and exciting movies that our guests want to enjoy on the big screen,” it reads. “We are carefully watching the scheduling of new films from the studios and anticipate a re-opening as early as November 2020.”
The notice, signed by owner Herman Stone, states the small regional theater chain focuses on a safe environment and quality movie experience. The company will push studio partners, it reads, to push up anticipated releases into November like the James Bond film “No Time to Die” and the Scarlett Johansson film “Black Widow.”
The notice also mentions continued monitoring of COVID-19 impacts that include local and state mandates for gathering.
“We know this news is disappointing and frustrating for our staff and guests,” the notice reads. “We ask for your patience and we promise to work hard to reopen soon.”
Movie theaters have been impacted by coronavirus gathering restrictions since the spring. They like many businesses and schools closed in March in South Carolina, with orders from Gov. Henry McMaster. South Carolina theaters were allowed to reopen in August, at half capacity due to coronavirus and with safety measures like face coverings in place.
An AMC movie theater in Rock Hill, on Cherry Road, didn’t reopen. Other theaters reopened on phased schedules from their parent companies.
