Public now can see details on a Rock Hill road widening between Cherry and Dave Lyle

A public drop-in will be held Thursday to update the community on road work plans in the busy Cel-River Road area.

The York County Engineering Department will host the event 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Elevation Church, 604 Cel-River Road in Rock Hill. Displays and engineers will answer questions on the Pennies for Progress project to widen Cel-River to five lanes from south of Paragon Way to Dave Lyle Boulevard. Bike lanes and sidewalks are planned.

The public can offer comments at the meeting, or online afterward at penniesforprogress.net. Comments can be emailed to penniesforprogress@yorkcountygov.com. Comments will be taken through June 30.

The work is part of the Pennies 4 campaign approved by York County voters in a 2017 referendum. The nearly $278 million program funds major road improvements countywide.

Pennies lists the Cel-River and Red River roads project at more than $40 million. It runs from the Eden Terrace Extension to Dave Lyle, and includes a tie in at Red River and Galleria Boulevard. The roadway is a major connection between the Cherry Road and Dave Lyle corridors, which include the planned Carolina Panthers headquarters, Waterford Golf Club also owned by the team, River Park and the Galleria mall. It runs somewhat parallel to I-77.
