Two motorcyclists died early Sunday morning in separate two-vehicle crashes less than a hour apart in York and Lancaster counties, South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said.

The first wreck happened shortly before 1 a.m. on U.S. 321 near Clover and the North Carolina state line in Bowling Green, an unincorporated community in York County, Corporal Joe Hovis of South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

The driver of a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling north of U.S. 321, Hovis said. The driver of a 2001 Toyota pickup truck was traveling south on U.S. 321, crossed the center line and struck the motorcyclist head on, Hovis said.

The motorcyclist, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second wreck happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on U.S. 521 near Shiloh Unity Road in Lancaster, Hovis said.

The driver of a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on U.S. 521, Hovis said. The driver of a 2012 Chrysler sedan, who was entering U.S. 521 from a street, was struck by the motorcyclist, Hovis said.

The motorcyclist, 43-year-old James Barwick, died at the scene, Lancaster County Coroner Karla Deese said.
