All I-77 lanes now open at Catawba River bridge after repairs
All southbound lanes of Interstate 77 in northern York County are back open after repairs were completed on the Catawba River bridge.
The state Department of Transportation closed the two right lanes on the bridge between 3 and 5 p.m. Thursday to allow road crews to patch a hole. The two left lanes were left open to traffic.
The closure affected southbound lanes near mile marker 82, just north of the Celanese Road/Cherry Road exit, which is usually congested during the evening rush hour even with four lanes open.
DOT officials say the hole opened up in the bridge deck due to the bridge’s aging infrastructure. Workers have repaired several holes in the I-77 bridge over the Catawba River over the past few years.
