New Whitaker’s bar in Fort Mill having soft opening this weekend for eager patrons

The wait for Whitaker’s in Fort Mill is over.

The new bar and food spot at 215 Main St. opened Friday. It’s having a soft opening weekend ahead of grand opening events as early as next week.

Whitaker’s opens in the former Spratt Building space that’s served as everything from a bank to a town-owned meeting and event venue. The town sold the site for almost $500,000 two years ago. Last year, Whitaker’s submitted remodeling plans.

Whitaker’s is based in Savannah, Georgia, and also has a Conway location. It serves cocktails and a variety of drinks. There’s a daily sushi menu. Prior to the opening, the Fort Mill location teased coming attractions on its social media pages — from sashimi to spicy garlic edamame to a host of adult beverages.

The Friday opening comes at the same time as the South Carolina Strawberry Festival this weekend in Fort Mill. The Main Street food and drink is also continuing to grow. Nearby sites include Fortes Mill Eaters, Hobos, The Improper Pig, Amor Artis and Emmet’s Social Table.

A sign on the door Friday afternoon welcomed guests to soft opening weekend. It also noted staff is still being trained and the menu is still being fine tuned.
