The city of Rock Hill is planning new renovations to the law center lobby.

City officials last week asked for bids from contractors for work that will focus on the lobby of the Rock Hill Police Department. The hired contractor will put up new wallpaper, repaint doors, patch the ceiling, and install a new floor to match the lobby in front of the municipal courtroom, according to a bid request put out by the city’s general services department.

The bid request comes after the completion of a $1.7 million renovation to the Law Center last June, which closed down a portion of East Black Street for almost a year.

The “old” lobby, which now houses the police records division, wasn’t part of the renovations that created the larger courtroom lobby. The new renovations are meant to match the lobby with the addition.

Work in the lobby will not affect scheduling for the police department or court hearings, city spokeswoman Katie Quinn said. The bid request specifies work will not be done during the department’s “high-usage times.”

The city has not released an estimated cost for the renovations ahead of receiving bid submissions. Bidders can submit proposals until 2 p.m. Aug. 12.
