PHOTOS: More images of Carowinds cracked roller coaster before it was shut down
One of the most popular roller coasters at Carowinds is still shut down and under inspection after a park visitor spotted it was damaged.
Fury 325, one of the fastest rides in the world, has been closed for nearly a week after someone reported a crack in one of its pillars.
A video of the damage posted by Jeremy Wagner shows riders going over a fractured pillar, The Charlotte Observer previously reported. He reported it to the fire department and it took nearly an hour for Carowinds to shut the ride down, according to WSOC-TV.
Since then, others have posted photos and videos online of the damage before it was closed and shut down, including one that appears to the show the crack beginning to form a week prior.
More about the damaged Fury 325 roller coaster
The roller coaster, which was added to the park in 2015, reaches a height of 325 feet and goes as fast as 95 miles per hour. According to park officials, Fury 325, is licensed and inspected yearly by the North Carolina Department of Labor prior to opening and and is inspected every day, along with all rides and attractions, by park employees.
It’s still not clear when the crack on the roller coaster occurred or what caused it.
Now, the park’s maintenance team, inspectors from NCDOL’s Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau and the company that built the roller coaster are inspecting the damage to figure that out.
Park officials told The Charlotte Observer the ride will remain closed until repairs have been completed.
At this time, it’s unclear how long an investigation could take and when the ride will be reopened.
