York County Council recalls Anna Moore at 1st meeting since July 5 slayings
It was a somber return for the York County Council on Monday after a monthlong meeting break.
Monday’s session was the first since longtime Assistant County Manager Anna Moore was killed, shot to death in her home with her son and his girlfriend by her husband, who then took his own life, police say.
The bodies of all four were found on Dunlap Roddey Road in Rock Hill on July 5, .
During the meeting, a black sheet was draped over Moore’s chair and desk next to the council dais. Council members recognized Moore before the meeting.
“She’s in heaven now,” said Chairman Britt Blackwell. “May she rest in peace.”
Councilwoman Christi Cox evoked Moore’s memory during the meeting’s opening invocation. “We will never understand the circumstances of (Moore’s) death,” Cox said. “Her memory will live on in our hearts.”
County Manager Bill Shanahan praised his former colleague: “When the firetrucks show up at your house and put out that fire, when the ambulances show up and save your life, Anna made that possible.”
