Filing for three Rock Hill city council seats opens Wednesday
Three members of Rock Hill city council face re-election this fall, and whether they face any opposition could be decided as early as this week.
A four-week filing period for races in Rock Hill wards 1, 2 and 3 will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Candidates for the three seats have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 21 to send their paperwork to the York County Elections and Voter Registration Office.
The seats up for grabs are currently held by Sandra Oborokumo (Ward 1), Kathy Pender (Ward 2) and Kevin Sutton (Ward 3). Election day will be Tuesday, Oct. 20.
City council members in Rock Hill serve for four-year terms, with half the seats up for election this year and the three other council seats and the mayor’s office up for election in 2017.
Eight other cities and towns in York County will hold municipal elections on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
· In Sharon, petition packets for candidates are available now and must be returned by Thursday, Aug. 20 at noon
· In Fort Mill, filing opens Wednesday, Aug. 5, at noon and closes Friday, September 4 at noon
· Clover, Hickory Grove, McConnells, Smyrna, Tega Cay, and York will open filing Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 8 a.m. and close Friday, Sept. 4, at 5 p.m.
Candidates for all seats should file at the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of York County, 13 S. Congress St., York.
