Teen killed in Hickory Grove ATV accident identified
The driver of the ATV who died in a Saturday afternoon collision has been identified.
Dalton Wright, 17, of Hickory Grove, died at the scene after he was ejected from the four-wheeler, the York County Coroner’s Office announced Sunday. He was not wearing a helmet, according to S.C. Highway Patrol.
An autopsy in the case has yet to be performed, Coroner Sabrina Gast said in a press release. A toxicology report will also be issued as the investigation of the accident continues.
The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. on Goose Hollow Road in Hickory Grove, said Cpl. Bill Rhy, a Highway Patrol spokesman. One person was killed and another airlifted after a crash involving an ATV and a pickup, according to the Highway Patrol.
Rhy said the accident involved a Yamaha four-wheeler and a Dodge pickup.
A 17-year-old passenger on the back of the ATV also was ejected and was not wearing a helmet, Rhy said. He was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where his condition is unknown.
The driver of the pickup, a 16-year-old girl, and her passenger were both wearing seat belts and were not injured, troopers said. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
