A Rock Hill, South Carolina man is charged with murder after a stabbing on April 13, 2024, police said.

A Rock Hill man charged with murder in the weekend stabbing death of a family member is in Mecklenburg County jail after he was caught north of Charlotte Sunday, police said.

Shawn Marion Love, 27, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after Carol Love, 60, died Saturday afternoon at a house on Brunswick Drive, according to the Rock Hill Police Department and York County Coroner.

The suspect and victim are related, but Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis refused Monday to disclose the exact relationship.

No motive for the crime has been released. No one else was hurt, Chavis said.

Love was arrested Sunday in Huntersville, N.C., north of Charlotte after an an attempted robbery, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office web site.

Love faces North Carolina charges of attempted robbery with a weapon and breaking and entering of a vehicle, and also is being held on a South Carolina fugitive warrant, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office web site shows.

Huntersville police told law enforcement in Rock Hill that Love was in custody, Chavis said.

Because Love is in North Carolina, the Rock Hill murder warrant remains pending, Chavis said.

South Carolina police are expected to start extradition proceedings that would bring Love to York County to be served the South Carolina warrant for murder.
