A driver on U.S. 21 in Chester County was killed after striking a tree, SC cops say
A driver was killed in a Chester County single-vehicle wreck after striking a tree.
The wreck happened at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, Master Trooper Gary Miller with South Carolina Highway Patrol said in a recorded incident report. The driver was the only person in a 1997 Mack truck with a trailer.
It was traveling north on U.S. 21 about 7 miles south of Fort Lawn, Miller said, when the truck went off the left side of the highway. It struck an embankment and a tree, Miller said. No other vehicles were involved.
Miller referred further details, including identification of the driver, to the Chester County coroner. The coroner’s office didn’t have public details to share as of mid-morning Thursday.
That location on U.S. 21 is a couple of miles north of Great Falls, near Fishing Creek Reservoir. Great Falls sits next to the Lancaster and Fairfield county lines.
The wreck site is less than an hour’s drive north, around Lake Wateree, from a Kershaw County wreck that killed Legion Collegiate Academy head baseball coach Jalen Benjamin on Saturday.
This is a developing story.
