Rock Hill High School has the possibility to win a $2 million makeover of its football field thanks to T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program.

The program will award $5,000 to the football programs of 300 randomly-selected high schools, notifying 50 winners every Friday starting on August 23. Rock Hill was in the first batch of winners.

Of the 300 schools, 16 finalists will be chosen to receive an additional $25,000, with one grand prize winner receiving the $2 million makeover. This makeover includes:

$100,000 high school grant

An upgraded weight room from Gronk Fitness

A new, hi-tech scoreboard

Consultation with football field experience experts to get pro tips to elevate the game

5G network upgrades package to unlock player potential and performance

Epic tailgate party celebration with live music and 5G-powered halftime drone show

Should Rock Hill win the grand prize, it will not go to the District Three Stadium the Bearcats share with Northwestern. Instead, the makeover will go toward the football field in front of Rock Hill High School, which also has the school’s track.

Athletic director Eric Rollings said the makeover would help the school host athletic events on campus.

“It’s great,” Rollings said. “Anytime you can secure funding that addresses a need for our teams and student-athletes, it’s always a huge piece that makes our programs successful. (One of the reasons that I applied for the grant) is because of that. I want the best for our student-athletes and our coaches, and fortunately we were one of the (schools chosen).”

Other schools can still enter their names to be selected in the pool of 300 to receive the $5,000. Northwestern has also entered.
