Candidate filing for councils, mayors opens Wednesday for 7 York County towns
Candidate filing for various elected offices in seven municipalities in York County opens Wednesday.
Officials with the county Board of Voter Registration and Elections say towns of Clover, Fort Mill, Hickory Grove, McConnells, Smyrna, and York have mayor and council seats up for re-election. The city of Tega Cay has two open council seats. Elections will be held Nov. 3.
Filing is already open for three Rock Hill City Council positions. Rock Hill’s elections will be held Oct. 20. Filing is open until Aug. 21. Incumbents for the three open council seats – Wards 1, 2, and 3 – have filed for re-election: Council members Kathy Pender, Sandra Oborokumo and Kevin Sutton.
In Sharon, petition packets are available until Aug. 20 at noon for candidates interested in running for one of four council seats or for mayor. Bobby Stephenson has filed to run for one council seat in Sharon, according to state election commission records. Elections will be Nov. 3.
In Fort Mill, two-term Mayor Danny Funderburk has said he won’t seek re-election this year. There, the mayor and three council positions – Wards 2, 4, and an at-large seat – are up for grabs. Filing opens Wednesday at noon and closes at noon on Sept. 4.
Filing for these races opens Wednesday at 8 a.m. and closes Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.:
- Clover, six council seats and mayor
- Hickory Grove, four council seats and mayor
- McConnells, four council seats and mayor
- Smyrna, four council seats and mayor
- Tega Cay, two council seats
- York, Districts 2, 3, and 4 council seats and mayor
