A bipartisan feeling may be in the air this week when a Republican councilman meets with his Democratic constituents.

York County Councilman Michael Johnson of Fort Mill, the vice chairman of York County Council, will speak to the monthly meeting of the York County Democratic Party on Tuesday.

According to the Democratic Party newsletter, Johnson is expected to address “present and future development plans affecting Fort Mill and Tega Cay,” along with any other issues the crowd wants to raise.

“Whether we agree on policy or not, they are constituents,” Johnson said, who notes he usually speaks to two or three different groups a month on county issues. “If they want to talk about roads or growth, I’m happy to answer their questions.

“I’m sure I’m not going to convert them into being Republican, and they’re not going to convert me into a Democrat, but something like this is good for everybody.”

The party meeting is open to the public, and will be held at the Towne Tavern, 2000 S.C. 160 West, Fort Mill. The meeting begins at 6 p.m., with the chance to order food at 5:30.
