Political newcomer Angela Douglas was elected late Tuesday to fill the open Chester City Council seat vacated when former councilman George Caldwell was elected mayor.

Douglas will take the seat in a special called council meeting Thusday at 6:30 p.m. The seat has been vacant since Caldwell took over as mayor in May.

Douglas easily outdistanced her two opponents, W.T Holmes and John Moore, in light turnout Tuesday with more than double the vote total to the second place finisher.
