Girl, 4, killed after van crashes near Rock Hill

A girl was killed after a van carrying seven juveniles and two adults crashed near Rock Hill late Wednesday afternoon, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Faith Mobley, who turned 4 just two weeks ago, was an unrestrained passenger in the vehicle, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast. She died at Piedmont Medical Center from injuries sustained in the crash.

The wreck happened at about 6:15 p.m. on S.C. 72, two miles south of Rock Hill, said Lance Cpl. Tony Keller of the Highway Patrol. The 1999 Mercury van was traveling north when the vehicle ran off the road and overturned, authorities say.

Faith was not ejected or entrapped, and was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

She was one of seven juveniles in the van, none of whom were wearing seat belts, Keller said. The two adults in the van were wearing seat belts. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
