New Winthrop president to throw first pitch at Charlotte Knights game

Winthrop University President Dan Mahony will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Charlotte Knights baseball game next month in the team’s Uptown Charlotte stadium.

The Wednesday night Sept. 2 game against the Durham Bulls is also Winthrop Alumni Night at BB&T Ballpark. The university’s alumni office will hold a special event before the game at Mellow Mushroom in Charlotte.

Mahony took office July 1 at Winthrop as the university’s 11th president. He was previously a dean at Kent State University in Ohio. Mahony has a background in accounting and sport management.

Special pricing and seating options are available for Winthrop alumni attending the Knights game at 7:05 p.m. on Sept. 2. Registration for the 5 p.m. restaurant event before the game is required.
