Heavy traffic on Interstate 77 from Exit 85 to the North Carolina state line is being reported today because of construction and paving projects, troopers said.
Most of the construction is centered around the Carowinds Boulevard area near Exit 90, but the four-lane interstate is down to two lanes on both northbound and southbound sides. The speed limit in the area of construction is 45 MPH.
Exit 90 is generally heavily used on Saturdays because it is the exit for the Carowinds theme park.
Heavy traffic was reported before noon today on U.S. 21, the alternate north and south route that meets Interstate 77 at Carowinds Boulevard.
