More traffic changes are coming to a busy section of Interstate 77 in Fort Mill, as work continues at the S.C. 160 interchange.

The town posted on its social media Wednesday morning that traffic patterns will shift Friday and Saturday. All northbound interstate traffic at the S.C. 160 interchange will be diverted up and down the access ramps from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Law enforcement and construction contractors will be present to direct traffic.

Drivers should expect lane closures and traffic stops as the bridge work happens, according to the town post. The notice didn’t state how long that part of the project will last.

Some lane closures will occur on the southbound side too, according to the town.

The traffic changes are part of continued construction at the new interchange. They’ll allow for a wider bridge on S.C. 160 crossing the interstate.

The S.C. 160 interchange between Baxter and Kingsley is getting a $160 million upgrade. It’ll have two new flyover bridges and the state highway will be widened to six lanes from Sutton Road to U.S. 21.

Construction is projected to last into late 2027, due largely to S.C. 160 widening away from the interchange.

This is a developing story
