Three people killed in head-on crash on South Carolina road, cops say

Three people were killed in a recent head-on crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle collision happened June 27 at about 8:25 p.m. in Chester County, said Cpl. David Jones.

A 2003 Honda Civic was driving north on S.C. 49 and it collided with a 2025 Toyota four-door that was driving south on the road, Jones said.

Both the Honda driver, who was the only person in that car, and a passenger in the Toyota died at the scene, according to Jones.

The Toyota driver was taken to an Upstate hospital and died there Sunday, Jones said.

The Chester County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified any of the crash victims.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if any of the victims were wearing a seat belt.

Information about what caused the cars to collide was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 393 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least four people have died in Chester County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were eight deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
