A Rock Hill woman driving a U-Haul truck on Interstate 80 in northeast Nevada was killed in a crash on an exit ramp near Carlin.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said Dorinda Edwards, 55, was declared dead at the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Trooper Jim Stewart told the Elko Daily Free Press a preliminary investigation indicates she did not attempt to brake before she slammed into the back of a semi-trailer truck at a stop sign on the exit ramp in Carlin just west of Elko.

One of two dogs in the rental truck also was killed. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Stewart said Thursday the crash remains under investigation. The driver of the tractor trailer, which was carrying beer, is not facing charges because he was legally stopped on the ramp.

It’s unclear where the woman from Rock Hill was headed and why she exited at mile marker 280 near Carlin in Elko County, Stewart said. The Nevada Highway Patrol has asked for anyone who may have had contact with the woman around Elko and Carlin to call 775-753-1111.

Herald reporter Anna Douglas contributed.
